Hello Again

Well, I seem to have caught another cold! Yay! Perhaps this will just be a tiny one! I did manage to get some writing done recently which is good. I need to get around to putting up a couple of posts AND catching up on my blog reading! Sending hugs!

Not Dead

Like Khal Drogo at Comic Con, I am, it would appear, not actually dead.

I was feeling well enough today to go to a friend's birthday party, and make a list of stories I want to work on. We shall resume normal programming soon.

Thank you for the well-wishes.

When the end is near
you will see him

Sleek furred, gentle beast
miniature predator
shadow panther of the halls of the dying

Nothing more remarkable than a cat and yet
there is something more

Look into those eyes that seem to know
things that no human knows

Silent padding steps
making their way
down the halls

stopping at the door
he goes in

Frail hands cradle his form
as he leaps up on the bed

curls up purring
on the sunken chest

Comforter in final hours
or something more?

In those last moments
does he stand up
place his mouth to yours
and breathe

Does he suck the soul from its fading carapace?

Does he take it with him into the dark night

to heaven or to hell?

Inspired by Oscar, a cat who watches over the dying in their last moments.

Writer's Dilemma

Do you ever worry
you will wake to find your characters clustered around your bed
like in that old movie about the brothers Grimm
ranting and complaining
about the way you treated them?

About how they did not deserve to die
or be tortured
or lose all those they loved?

Will you stammer
protest that you had to
For The Sake of the Story?

Will you fall to your knees and ask for forgiveness?

It's a wrench to kill characters
when each is a piece of yourself
you even pity the bad ones
because you know what made them that way

It's a wrench
even to punish evil misdeeds

not to turn back the clock
and rescue that frightened child from the dark
and make them into something bright

But it is hard to write a book
where nothing bad happens
unless it's a picture book for kids

Will you protest
that they will be remembered with fond sadness
like fallen heroes?

Will you turn your face to the wall
and pretend you don't hear them?

I wonder to myself
what does JK Rowling do?

Does she lay awake at night
tossing and turning
haunted by the voices of her dead characters?

Has she moved on
accepted it is all part of a writer's life
planned more characters to kill?

How does George R R Martin
even sleep at night?

How does any writer sleep
worrying that their characters will invade their dreams
demanding justice?

Day 8 – What’s your worst and best experience with non-Goths?

Some of my best friends don't identify as Goth, we run around being faeries and doing art and crafts and having tea and generally being awesome!

My worst experiences with non-goths would probably be people saying things like "I'll pray for you" as if there was something inherently evil about the subculture.

Day 9 – What genre of music do you dislike?

Anything sleazy that objectifies anyone (men or women). I particularly hate Blurred Lines because, as you have no doubt heard, it is pretty much denying the need for consent. What happened to romantic songs?
