The last time I visited such a place I was sick for two months (both physically and emotionally). Not to mention the smell (still haunting me).
I don't remember it smelling bad, as the bones were so old there was no smell left, unless you mean the unfresh air and mildew underground? I can understand why such a place would upset you, although I was personally touched by the effort the workers made to arrange the bones artistically when they were basically paid to dump them. I would feel pretty happy if someone did that with my bones.
Lovely photos, now you made me want to visit Paris and the catacombs again. :D
Ooh, gorgeous images! I've never been there, but they have something similar in Italy. A Capuchin Crypt which was built by monks.
I was reading about that today, is it the one with mummies naturally preserved in the limestone cave surroundings?
would really love to visit that place one day ;_; <3
Great, I've been there, I especially liked the quotes on mortality everywhere. I'd like to see the ones in Italy as well, they look even cooler!
I love love love old cemeteries, so I'd probably love catacombs as well. I just find them so peaceful and sort of a memento mori.
Ooh looks amazing. What a great place to visit.
