30 Day Goth Challenge Days 19- 25

Day 19 – Share beauty advice and take a photo of your make up.

It has taken me years to get good at makeup, I can finally do a decent blend and cats eye.

Definitely start subtle and build up slowly, panda eye is hard to remove!

Oh and always moisturise after makeup removal!

Here are a couple of my recent favourite looks.

Day 20 – If you could dye your hair any colour what would it be?

Rainbow maybe, I have never done that. Planning to do it when I am an old lady maybe :P It is a lot of effort- and a lot of painful bleaching! I have met a girl who had amazing rainbow hair so I have seen how impressive it can be in real life!

Not sure who this is

Day 21 – What body mod do you have or have you considered?

Ear piercings are the most I have, which most wouldn't even consider a mod. I had a nose piercing, but it grew out. I just realised this might be including tattoos, in which case I have one floral sleeve, which you can see in some of my pictures, and two small tattoos, one on my thigh, one on my wrist.

Day 22 – If you could attend any Goth event what would it be?

Wave Gotik Treffen sounds great and some bands I like that are still around play there. Amphi and Whitby also sound great.
Day 23 – Your favourite artist or photographer.

I love a lot of them, Renoir, Monet, The Pre-Raphaelites, the list goes on. In architecture I love Queen Anne Style, Art Deco and Gothic. In photography I have followed BlueBlack (Now Natalie Shau) through her early DeviantArt days. I love Victoria Pettella. I also love faded polaroid style photos, although I cant think of any artists. And a lot of my friends are artists who make interesting work. This is my friend Fiona's blog.

Day 24 – Name the best websites for Goths.

I mostly just chat on Facebook, I am not really au fait with all the current websites. I also think that good black basics can be found in secondhand shops or local cheap fashion stores so that you can save for the really nice unique pieces from Goth stores. Of course I love Alchemy Gothic's jewellery, but I don't wear a lot of jewellery really.
Day 25 – Did you ever consider leaving the subculture?

I actually left and then came back. These days I don't worry as much about fitting in, more about finding myself, and being Goth is a part of who I am. I always try to be true to how I feel and not like something just because it is Goth, and not worry what others think about me. I know I am happier embracing my Gothic side than hiding it.

What I Believe In

I believe that friends, family and our beloved animal companions are more important than money

I believe as the dominant species on earth we have a responsibility to help the weaker ones

I believe that while I do occasionally eat meat I am still able to support animal rights and welfare

I believe that the earth is very important, it sustains us and we should not sacrifice it on the altar of money, if we kill the earth, we kill ourselves and it is everyone's responsibility to take care of it, whether it be picking up our rubbish or choosing more sustainable business methods

I believe that capitalism really mostly benefits those at the top, the companies and CEOs while the poor stay poor, unless companies make an effort to change and to help others, which some do

I believe that advertising helps make us unhappy by making us want bodies we cannot have and items we do not need

I believe it is still ok to dress up and take pride in our appearance, but not to let this become the be all and end all of our lives

I believe having less and working less is a better life balance

I believe that shopping at charity stores is good because not only are the items cheaper than designer clothes, but the money goes to benefit the community

I believe that we need to be more community spirited and willing to help others

I believe that we all have a responsibility to make sure manners do not die out, holding the door open, letting old people onto the bus or train before you, etc.

I believe that we can make a change, the good things that people do always matter

 What do you believe?

How To Help Homeless Pets

The adorable Oli, who has gone to his FurEver home.

Time: You can volunteer your time to help out at a shelter. Shelter dogs get very lonely, the more people to walk and play with them, the happier they will be. You can also try and raise awareness of issues like responsible pet ownership, desexing and puppy farms.

Donation: While money always helps rescue organisations, donating things like blankets and dog food can always help too. Ask your local shelter. If a friend has a pet that they say they cannot afford to desex offer to pay for it. Especially with wandering male animals such as dogs and cats, they could create multiple litters of kittens and puppies that could be put down.

Adoption: If you know you can take care of a dog for life then consider taking in one or two to give them a loving forever home. Please only consider this if you are willing to take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Fostering: Another way you can help out is taking in shelter dogs as a foster carer. This means you will take care of the dog until it finds a forever home. Shelters are often overcrowded, taking in a foster animal means you might save it from being put down, or that you might help an anxious and stressed animal recover so that it can be rehomed. If you really fall in love with it you could always adopt it too.

Talk to friends and family about responsible pet ownership, adopting from shelters instead of petshops and desexing pets. If someone you know talks about getting someone a pet as a present remind them that pets are a lifetime responsibility. They need to make sure that family is able to keep the pet and will not just get rid of it when it is too much trouble or not so cute anymore. Remind them that adopting from a shelter saves lives, while animals in petshops can come from puppy farms. Even if they do not, a puppy from a petshop is much more likely to find a happy forever home than an older dog at a shelter, even though they deserve love just as much. And of course, desexing pets means there will be less unwanted animals out there who may be put down.

If you know anyone who rents out their home encourage them to allow pets on the lease, rental agencies often just don't allow pets because of possible damage but the renter would have to pay these damages anyway. More pet friendly rental properties means more people who can take in foster animals or pets from shelters.

Adopt a senior pet: Old pets are harder to rehome, some people don't want to deal with an animal who may have missing teeth, arthritis or die within a couple of years. But they still have so much love to give, and deserve to grow old with love.

Lobby for reform of animal rights, ending puppy farms, etc.

If you can think of any more ideas, comment! :)
